Vancouver, BC – June 24, 2025 – LMI Technologies, a global leader in 3D scanning and inspection solutions, has successfully prosecuted a patent infringement trial in China. On 27 May 2025, the Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court ruled in favor of LMI, reinforcing the company’s intellectual property rights and innovation leadership in optical imaging sensors. The case asserted LMI’s Chinese Patent ZL200780038629.3 which covers the use of dual-axis chromatic confocal technology in a sensor to assess the location and other characteristics of a surface. The Chinese patent is part of a worldwide portfolio of patents covering the technology.
The court ruling includes an injunction against Hypersen Technologies prohibiting the sale of any sensor product that infringes LMI’s patented technology and a monetary award of over US$500,000, plus certain litigation costs. The Court also confirmed that the involved dual-axis confocal technology coming from Hypersen infringes the patent and ruled that Hypersen should cease any subsequent infringement immediately. This decision is a significant milestone in LMI’s ongoing efforts to protect its intellectual property, ensuring fair competition and continued technological advancement in industries such as semiconductor manufacturing and automotive.
