wenglor supports karate athlete Sabina Avdic

After 15 years of high-performance sports, cross-country skier and biathlon competitor Verena Bentele announced that she would resign from competitive sports at the end of 2011. Along with her withdrawal from professional sports, Verena’s longstanding official partnership with the southern German sensor manufacturer came to an end as well. As a sports enthusiast, managing director Dieter Baur was convinced right from the start by Verena’s personality and her potential as an athlete, and had complete faith in her. A good decision, as became apparent during the course of the years: Both the athlete and the sponsor took mutual pleasure in a total of 16 gold medals won at world championships and Paralympic Winter Games.

General management at wenglor has now decided to become active once again as a sponsor, and to promote another highly promising athlete. The choice has fallen on karate athlete Sabina Avdic from Tettnang. The 14-year-old pupil of the Montfort High School in Tettnang, who has been practicing karate since she was five and trains up to four times per week, has already enjoyed considerable success despite her young age. Together with her club, the Lake Constance Karate Team, she has won several national championship titles during the last three years. In 2011, she experienced the greatest apex of her sporting career thus far at the world championships held by the World Karate and Kickboxing Association (WKA) in Karlsruhe, where she took the gold medal in the juniors class (13 to 17 years old).

Word of Sabina’s success got around quickly in Tettnang, and impressed general management at wenglor as well. “Sabina can look forward to a terrific future in sports – of this I’m absolutely certain. We would like to help her realize her athletic goals and support her to the best of our ability”, says managing director Rafael Baur in confirmation of the company’s commitment. He knows that a young athlete like Sabina, on her way from amateur to professional sports, is dependent upon third party funding in addition to the psychological support provided by family and friends.

wenglor’s commitment to Sabina came at the right time, because she has two highlights on her touring schedule this year: the German championship in Berlin and defending her title at the WKA World Championships in Orlando, Florida. “Expenses for flights, accommodation and training materials are enormous. I’m very happy that wenglor is supporting me in this respect, making it possible for me to participate at national and international cups and championships”, explains Sabina regarding her sponsor’s commitment and the mutual cooperation.

Karate is a sport which is not frequently covered by the media, but it nevertheless has a large following. Together with wenglor, Sabina intends to assure that the fan base continues to grow. Information on the athlete is available on Sabina’s website: www.sabina-avdic.de.
