arketWatch、Smarter Analyst 报道，Susquehanna 分析师 Christopher Rolland 12 日陈说称，2017 年 AI GPU 当道，2018 年可能换成 ASIC 发威。AI 运用深度学习处理真实国际问题，也使用在语音和形象辨识、自动驾驶、医疗等，Nvidia 是 AI 作业量大增的受惠者，股价暴冲。不过，Susquehanna 和多位业界领袖谈论，判别 ASIC 可能会替代 GPU。

　　Rolland 以虚拟钱银挖矿为例，说明此一改动。前期矿工挖掘虚币时，多用 GPU，不过跟着挖矿难度不断提高，矿工逐渐改用 ASIC。现在比特币矿工八成选用 ASIC，以太币矿工也会在本年改用 ASIC。市面上更出现以太币专用 ASIC，效能远胜 GPU。

　　陈说称，Nvidia 有 ASIC 相关部分，未来仍会在 AI 扮演重要人物。但是商场将有更多竞争者，有望受惠的 ASIC 业者，包括帮忙谷歌研发 AI 晶片的博通、Cavium、Marvell、Microsemi 等。

　　其他，现场可程式化闸阵列(Field-Programmable Gate Array，FPGA)也可能从 AI 热潮叨光，赛灵思(Xilinx)的 FPGA 就用于亚马逊云端效能。

　　晶片商 Cerebras 正在研发 AI 专用的 ASIC，该公司执行长 Andrew Feldman 偏重，GPU 并非最适合 AI 运算的晶片。GPU 正本是为了电玩开发，现在却可巧适用于另一个毫不相干的新商场。这种走运的偶尔不会发作，最可能的说明是，GPU 只是当时最佳的处理方案，让业界能继续往前，暗示 ASIC 才是 AI 远景地址。

　　Barron’s.com 8 月 23 日报道，摩根士丹利(Morgan Stanley，通称大摩)宣告研讨陈说指出，现场可程式化闸阵列在机器学习进行“推论”(inference)时扮演的人物，可能比商场想像还要大，Xilinx 有望受惠。
